What is a 9mm sewing machine?
The 9mm references the maxium stitch width. Most sewing machines have a 5, 7 or 9mm maximum stitch width. The 8200 has a maximum stitch width of 9mm.
What is a “high shank” sewing machine?
The shank of a sewing machine is the metal rod that a presser foot attaches to. A high shank sewing machine has a shank that is about 1″ high. A low shank sewing machine has a shank that is about 1/2″ high.
While I’m explaining shanks. It’s appropriate for me to mention that sewing machines can be either high, low, or slanted shank. These shanks are made to use either snap-on, screw-on, or clip-on presser feet.
