I sew with the Janome 8200QCP sewing machine and I absolutely love it! In fact, I’ve been sewing with my 8200 since 2019. (You can read my original review of the 8200QCP on The Birch Cottage blog.)
My previous sewing machine was the Brother HC1850. It was a good little sewing machine and a step up from my previous machine. My little Brother machine served me well for a number of years.
But, I really wanted a sewing machine that I could quilt with, so I had begun looking for a machine with a bigger throat space. What is a “throat space”, well it’s the space between the right side of the sewing machine and the needle.
I also wanted a sewing machine that was a little bit heavier than my Brother so that it wouldn’t “dance across the table.”

Hi Pam, I also have this machine and love it. I got mine in 2020. I wanted to get into machine quilting so wanted a bigger machine and one made for quilting. I chose it because it also has the free arm which I like to have for mending jeans etc. It does everything I need it to do. I’ve had a go at free motion quilting, that was a lot of fun! It’s a great machine and I’m very happy with it.

Hi Pam, I haven’t done ruler quilting. I’m not sure if I can do it on this machine. Still getting used to the free motion quilting, so haven’t really thought about using rulers. Is there a ruler foot for the 8200? And do you think it could handle bag making where you use foam, or thicker layers?
