My name is Pam and I am the sewist behind Hooked on Sewing. I created Hooked on Sewing as a place for YOU to learn how to sew in the comfort of your own home.
I totally get how sewing can be a bit overwhelming and “seam” like a chore instead of joy. You see, I’ve been where you are! I understand your fear and the intimidation that goes into learning something new.
But sewing should be something you enjoy.
Something fun and rewarding.
Follow along with the tutorials here on Hooked on Sewing and you’ll be sewing with confidence in no time!
One of my favorite quotes!
Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.”
Benjamin Franklin
My Story
I started sewing as a little girl about the age of 10. My mother was a self-taught seamstress who could make magic happen. I sat in awe of my mother’s talent and would stand by her side and watch her sew in total awe.
Finally, I was old enough for my mother to teach me how to sew. I wanted to sew everything – and I just about did! I was a member of 4-H and entered numerous sewing projects in the Fayette County Fair.
When I was 13 I sewed a striped dress and won a blue ribbon. To be honest, I think it was pure luck that all the stripes aligned properly. But, I was still very proud to model my dress and earn my blue ribbon.
Unfortunately, my mother passed away when I was only 18. I felt robbed. Alone. Depressed. And sort of lost my way for a while. I found it difficult to do “normal” things. Then one day I started going through my mom’s sewing things and came upon a corduroy suit pattern my mom had cut out to make for my dad.
So I set out to sew this suit for my dad. It was no easy feat! But my dad wore the suit with great pride.
Since then I’ve read everything I could about sewing and learned most of what I know simply from trial and error. So, when I say I know how intimidating and scary learning to sew can be, I really know!
I want to share my love of sewing with you, in the best way I know how. Start from the beginning and take things one successful step at a time. Because with each success, your fears are diminished and your confidence is boosted.
I truly desire for you to put the fun in sewing, too! Feel free to ask questions absolutely anytime. I’m sure if you have a question, there are thousands of people with the same question. Let’s do this! Let’s put the fun in sewing together!
